Top 5 Disney World Packing Tips

Top 5 Disney World Packing Tips

Planning a Disney World vacation is very exciting, but it can also be very overwhelming. Packing usually gets put off until the last possible minute then you end up scrambling to throw stuff together and forgetting things. Not knowing what to pack is one of the biggest struggles when planning a Disney vacation, especially if it’s your first trip. We can help! The Starts With A Wish Vacation Planners have packed for Disney World so many times we can do it in record time! Below are our top 5 Disney World packing tips and a great resource to help you out!

Don’t Forget the Important Stuff

Don’t forget your boarding passes and photo identification. Put your Magic Bands in the car the night before you leave and put them on when you get to the airport. You will scan them when you reach the Magical Express area of the airport. Take your insurance cards (health and auto), AAA or road-side assistance card, Disney Visa and of course your itinerary and touring plan!

Keep it All Organized

This is one of the most important tips!  Keeping everything organized will save you stress and time on your vacation. The easiest way to do this is to use Ziploc bags – lots of them in different sizes. They can be used for everything from organizing your child’s clothes to keeping your camera dry on water rides. Another great way to stay organized is to use packing cubes. You can pull them out and empty items into a drawer or put the whole cube in the drawer and pull out items as you wear them.

Don’t Overpack

You don’t have to pack everything in your closet. You do need enough clothes for the week with a couple extra sets, a light jacket or sweater, soft socks (moisture wicking is best) and a couple pair of comfortable shoes. You don’t need full size shampoo and body wash. Purchase travel-size bottles of your favorites. If they aren’t sold in travel-sized containers, buy small plastic bottles and fill them with your product. This will save a ton of room in your suitcase – great for making room for souvenirs!

Be Prepared

Things happen when you least expect it, even at Disney World. The only thing you can do is to be as prepared as possible when you travel. If you’re on prescription medication, get your refill before you leave town. Pack it in your carry-on bag so if your luggage gets lost you don’t lose it. Pack over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen, acetaminophen, allergy and sinus medication etc. Don’t forget the Dramamine, just in case. Take small bottles of hand sanitizer and hand wipes to (hopefully) avoid the spread of nasty germs. If you’re traveling with young children make sure you have bottles/sippy cups, disposable bibs and placemats, extra pacifiers with clips and plenty of formula and diapers. Other important items include rain ponchos, sunblock, blister care and lip spf.

Don’t Forget the Fun Stuff

There are lots of free, fun extra things to do at Walt Disney World. Take autograph books and a large fat pen for collecting character autographs. Take some quarters and pennies for the pressed penny machines. Finding hidden  Mickey’s is always a fun thing to do when walking through the park or waiting in line, and you can purchase books that help you find them. Kids love pin trading with Disney Cast Members and you can either pre-purchase a lanyard and pins online or purchase them when you get there to get started. Don’t forget your matching shirts and Mickey ears!
